One of the top assistants for Florida football is rumored to be in line to be the next head coach of the Howard Bison.

Just before the late signing period, the coach responsible for molding Kyle Pitts into a top threat for Florida football is on the move.

ESPN’s Adam Rittenberg first reported that Florida football assistant coach Larry Scott will be the new head coach for the Howard Bison.

He will replace Ron Prince, who resigned in December amid allegations of abuse.

Scott became the tight ends coach for Florida football in January 2018. Prior to that, he was the special teams’ coordinator and tight ends coach at Tennessee in 2016. He was the Vols’ offensive coordinator and tight ends coach in 2017.

He graduated from the University of South Florida in 2000 where he was an offensive lineman for the Bulls. He coached high school football for four years before being named the Director of High School Relations for South Florida.

Scott also coached the offensive line, tight ends and running backs for the Bulls and was also their lead recruiter.

In 2013, Scott was hired by then-Miami Hurricanes’ head coach Al Golden to be an assistant coach for the Hurricanes. He was the school’s interim head coach when Golden was fired in the middle of the 2015 season.

While with Florida football, Scott perhaps made his biggest mark with Pitts, who became one of the Gators’ leading receivers and is currently considered of the best tight ends in the county heading into the 2020 season.

He will replace Prince, a former head coach at Kansas State, following Prince’s resignation at the end of the 2019 season. Prince was under investigation after several parents accused the head coach of harassing, bullying and verbally and mentally abusing football players.

The allegations started when Caylin Newton, brother to former Heisman Trophy winner and current Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton announced on Twitter that he was transferring from the program.

Prince resigned shortly after being placed on administrative leave pending an investigation into the allegations.

Scott’s move from Florida football is a big loss for the Gators as head coach Dan Mullen loses one of his best recruiters and a solid position coach.

That could pave the way for former Florida football coordinator Charlie Strong to join the staff, which has been a rumor for the last week.
