Florida football: Kyle Trask makes Heisman odds list
The second National Signing Day isn’t even here, but a Florida football quarterback is already on a list for a 2020 award.
Spring practice hasn’t even started yet for Florida football, but one of its players is already on a list for a prestigious award.
Quarterback Kyle Trask made the cut on Westgate Superbook’s odds to win the 2020 Heisman Trophy presented to college football’s Player of the Year.
While he’s not at the top of the list, being on it is pretty amazing, especially for a college quarterback who had not started a game until the fourth game of last season.
The book gave Trask 60-1 odds to win the award.
Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields and Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence were at the top of the list at 4-1 odds each. Oklahoma’s Spencer Rattler was at 12-1 while Texas quarterback Sam Ehlinger and Georgia’s Jamie Newman hit 14-1 odds.
Other Southeastern Conference players who made the list include:
- LSU quarterback Myles Brennan (25-1).
- Alabama quarterback Mac Jones (25-1).
- Auburn quarterback Bo Nix (25-1).
- Alabama wide receiver Najee Harris (40-1).
- Texas A&M quarterback Kellen Mond (50-1).
- Georgia running back Zamir White (80-1).
- LSU wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase (100-1).
- Alabama wide receiver Devonta Smith (100-1).
- Alabama wide receiver Jaylen Waddle (100-1).
- Georgia wide receiver George Pickens (100-1).
- LSU wide receiver Terrace Marshall Jr. (100-1).
- Texas A&M running back Isaiah Spiller (100-1).
- Ole Miss quarterback John Rhys Plumlee (100-1).
In his first partial season under center for Florida football, Trask helped lead the Gators to the Capital One Orange Bowl where they defeated then-No. 24 Virginia 36-24.
After replacing Feleipe Franks in the third game of the season at Kentucky, Trask completed 237 of his 354 passes for 2,941 yards and 25 touchdowns as Florida football finished the season in the top 10. Florida football won 10 games for the second consecutive season under head coach Dan Mullen.
The 60-1 odds for Trask are a little low here. His performance in 2019 was stronger than the four SEC quarterbacks listed ahead of him. It’s likely the book is taking into account the loss at receiver, but it doesn’t take into account what weapons Trask will have next season.
I think Trask’s odds should be better, but it could make for an interesting bet if you were interested in taking it.
