There are reports surfacing of a new potential destination the former Florida football quarterback and it’s an interesting one to be sure.

A new report out of the Pacific Northwest has tabbed a new destination for former Florida football quarterback Feleipe Franks.

According to Theo Lawson of the Spokesman-Review, Franks could be looking at a transfer to Washington State.

Interestingly enough, one of the main drivers in leading Franks to Pullman — Florida football head coach Dan Mullen.

Mullen, it was reported, could be steering Franks to Washington State because of Cougars’ head coach Mike Leach and his ability to work with and transform quarterbacks (not that Mullen doesn’t have that ability himself).

A source told the Spokesman-Review that Mullen recommended Franks take a deep look at Washington State so he could “get developed by Leach.”

Franks announced on Instagram his intention to leave Florida football by way of either the 2020 NFL Draft or the transfer portal. Due to the season-ending ankle injury he suffered against Kentucky, it is more likely Franks spends another year in college rather than take his chances in the draft.

In December, we reported Franks arrived in Lawrence, Kansas to look at the University of Kansas and their head coach Les Miles — who originally recruited Franks when Miles was the head coach at LSU.

The Jayhawks are looking for a new quarterback next season after Carter Stanley graduates. So, you have a hole that the former Florida football quarterback can fill with relative ease.

The Jayhawks use a “run and gun” style of offense under new offensive coordinator Brent Dearmon. He was promoted to the role after Miles dismissed Les Koenning following a beat-down at the hands of Oklahoma.

In 2017, when Franks became the Gators starting quarterback, he threw for 1,438 yards and nine touchdowns in eight starts. That improved greatly in 2018 when Franks threw for 2,457 yards and 24 touchdowns with just six interceptions — that was Mullen’s first year as head coach of Florida football.

He threw for 698 yards in the 2 ½ games before his injury.

Washington State would be in the market for a quarterback as starter Anthony Gordon along with backups Gage Gubrud and Trey Tinsley are all graduating in May. Leach has signed Jayden de Laura out of Hawaii, but there is no clear starter for the Cougars.

Leach’s ability to work with quarterbacks was evident this year with Gordon who threw for 5,579 yards (tops in Division I) and 48 touchdowns (second in Division I) along with Jacksonville Jaguar quarterback Gardner Minshew — who transferred from East Carolina to Washington State two seasons ago.

There is a slight connection between Florida football and Washington State as Steve Spurrier Jr. — son of former Florida football coach Steve Spurrier — is a coach on the Cougars’ staff (and follows Franks on Twitter, according to the report).

So, that leaves Kansas and Washington State as two potential landing spots for former Florida football quarterback Feleipe Franks.

There is no timeline as to when Franks could make his decision.
