It isn’t that Vanderbilt has put up impressive numbers or anything. But, this is the SEC and Florida football has to avoid the trap game this week.

Florida football coach Dan Mullen said something along the lines of this was the time to see what the Gators are made of.

No. 10 Florida has the task of responding to a 24-17 loss to Georgia in the Cocktail Party last weekend in Jacksonville.

And, they have to do it against a team that could trap the Gators, if they aren’t careful: Vanderbilt.

Don’t get me wrong, the Commodores just aren’t very good.

They lost to UNLV — yes, UNLV — and needed hopes and prayers to beat Northern Illinois. However, they have that one upset — at home to Missouri.

That’s the only reason why I think this team is dangerous. It’s the SEC and if Florida football isn’t ready, they could get caught off-guard.

But, the Gators return to Ben Hill Griffin Stadium for the first time in what seems like eons, so that should play a factor.

Nonetheless, here’s five Commodores to watch Saturday when Vanderbilt takes on Florida.

1. Ke’Shawn Vaughn, running back

Despite having the worst scoring offense in the Southeastern Conference, redshirt senior running back Ke’Shawn Vaughn has been the biggest bright spot.

Of the Commodores’ 2,537 total yards of offense this season, Vaught has 790 of it on the ground — making him the fourth-best running back in terms of yardage in the conference. He also has 234 yards receiving.

He averages about 5.23 yards per carry and, surprisingly enough, he gets most of his yardage running off the tackles.

Going to the right, Vaughn averages 6.23 yards per carry and he averages 5.73 yards per carry going off the left.

On sweeps, he struggles going right — averaging just 3.76 yards per carry — and he picks up 5 yards per carry sweeping to the left.

Regardless, being the biggest bright spot in an otherwise putrid offense makes Vaughn a player to watch Saturday.
