Florida football: Who knew scheduling would be this hard?

Apparently the scheduling world is a little tough for Florida football. So much so that athletic director Scott Stricklin has taken an unconventional measure to find opponents.

Wanted: Florida football program seeking Power 5 opponent for quality home-and-home series. Must be decent at football and not be Central Florida.

Okay, so I threw that last part about Central Florida in myself (but I will address it in a sec).

But, that is about what Florida athletics director Scott Stricklin is looking for in future opponents for Florida football.

But, the fish weren’t biting the traditional way, so Stricklin took his game to a new level by reaching out to other athletic directors on, of all places, Twitter.

Stricklin sent a message out on Twitter addressed to the athletic directors from the ACC, Big 10, Big 12 and Pac-12, seeking a home-and-home series with any school from one of those conferences.

He went so far as to challenge Ads to “schedule quality games the fans want to see!”

Bold move. Bold move, indeed.

Surprisingly, it has drawn some interest.

Clemson athletic director Dan Radakovic responded (on Twitter, no less) by asking Stricklin to call him as “Clemson would enjoy a visit to the Swamp and I am sure the Gators would like a visit to the original Death Valley … 37-38??”

Of course, Radakovic is referring to Clemson’s Memorial Stadium being referred to as Death Valley as opposed to LSU’s Tiger Stadium, which dons the same moniker.

Iowa State athletic director Jamie Pollard threw a little shade on the Southeastern Conference schedule with his reply to Stricklin (again, on Twitter).

“We already play 10 P5 games every year (9 conference games plus Iowa). Maybe the @SEC should play 9 conference games like the @Big12Conference.”

Ouch.

Of course, Stricklin’s invitation brought out the Central Florida trolls who seem to think it would be a good thing for Florida football and Central Florida to try a home-and-home.

First, Stricklin asked for Power 5 conference opponents. Last I checked, the American isn’t a Power 5 conference.

Second, we’ve been down this road before and it was discussed. Central Florida would play two games at Gainesville and one at Camping World Stadium. So far, no dice.

And, by the way, it seems the Knights have a difficult time winning outside of Orlando this year with losses to Pittsburgh and No. 18 Cincinnati, on the road.

Let me just leave this right here:

The bottom line is Stricklin is looking to up the ante in terms of the Florida football schedule. It’s refreshing to see us try to get away from Charleston Souther, Towson and UT-Martin and get into some strong games.

Make sure to check back and I’ll look at a wish list of potential opponents later today.

Next. Finally, some good injury news for Florida. dark

Remember, No. 7 Florida football is off this week and returns to action next Saturday in Jacksonville against No. 10 Georgia.
