Florida basketball is ranked in the top 10 in today’s AP Top 25 Preseason basketball poll. That’s great, but the Gators have a lot to prove this season.

The AP top 25 poll has just been released for the college basketball season which is set to get underway within the next few weeks and it’s not shocking to see the poll love Florida basketball this season in both basketball and football.

Currently, this is your Associated Press Preseason Basketball Top 10:

  1. Michigan State
  2. Kentucky
  3. Kansas
  4. Duke
  5. Louisville
  6. Florida
  7. Maryland
  8. Gonzaga
  9. North Carolina
  10. Villanova

The Gators need to make a strong comeback from last season’s second-round exit from the NCAA tournament.

They also need to show this team is deserving of this high of a ranking and their ability to hang with the higher echelon teams like Kentucky, Duke and North Carolina.

Florida basketball head coach Mike White is heading into his sixth season with the Gators since Billy Donovan has since moved on to the NBA to coach the Oklahoma City Thunder.

While the Gators have won at least one or two games in the tournament the last three years it seems more could’ve been done to see the Gators winning and are on the right track.

Our first exhibition game is on Tuesday, Oct. 29 vs. Lynn then we open the season the following week with North Florida, Florida State, Towson and at UConn

If anything the last three years have proven is the Gators need to start the season strong and fast.

Piling up the victories as much as they can before the SEC games start will help Florida basketball find a groove and stick with it if they hope to contend with Kentucky for the SEC Championship and for a top seed during the March Madness tournament.

When it matters most the Gators will need to make sure to win the games they are expected to win and give little to no room for error if they expect to get far in the tournament.
