Florida football: What’s happening in the SEC East?

Florida football came up with a big fourth quarter to stymie South Carolina, but elsewhere, things got even crazier.

If you thought the path to Atlanta for Florida football would be tough, it seems others in the SEC East are willing to lend the Gators a hand.

In another crazy college football weekend (where even Wisconsin was upset on the road), Vanderbilt upended Missouri.

Yup, you read that correctly. Vanderbilt beat Missouri.

It’s the second week in a row an upper-echelon team in the East was undone by a lower-echelon team.

This was the same Vanderbilt team that suffered a 24-point loss to UNLV, at home.

The loss took Mizzou out of the driver’s seat in the East and created organized chaos.

Now, Florida football, Georgia and Missouri are all tied atop the division standings and they all have to play each other in the coming weeks.

First will be Georgia and Florida in Jacksonville for the World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party in two weeks.

The Tigers will travel to Georgia the following week as Florida will host “giant-killers” Vanderbilt (yeah, I have to chuckle too when I read that).

Then, on Nov. 16, Florida football will travel to Columbia, Missouri to take on the Tigers in what could be a winner-take-all game.

Any of the three teams that win out will win the East and take on either Alabama or LSU in the SEC Championship game in Atlanta.

Right now, LSU and Alabama are on a collision course for the West Division championship when they meet in Tuscaloosa on Nov. 9.

As for Florida, if they can get past Georgia — who looked a little more than sluggish for the second game in a row Saturday — and stave off Vanderbilt (still chuckling when I say that) then ward off Missouri on the road, the East is there’s.

All three teams are now in the driver’s seat for the title.

Next. Dan Mullen in the mix for Dodd Trophy, but he isn't going to win. dark

The biggest question I have is who is the next team to get upset in the Southeastern Conference?
