See, winning does do some good. The Florida football team jumped three spots in this week’s AP Top 25 poll to No. 7.

I guess winning can actually win you some points in the polls if you’re Florida football.

Weeks after being downgraded for actually winning, voters in the Associated Press Top 25 poll voted the Gators up three spots to No. 7 after Florida football’s 24-13 win over then-No. 7 Auburn Saturday.

It was really the only significant movement inside the top 10 besides Auburn dropping to No. 12 and Ohio State actually tying Georgia at No. 3.

Alabama remained at No. 1 while Clemson (who didn’t play this week) stayed at No. 2. Florida football’s opponent this coming Saturday, LSU, stayed at No. 5 while Oklahoma came in at No. 6.

Wisconsin, Notre Dame and Penn State rounded out the top 10.

Getting pole’d

There’s always one team that gets the shaft by pollsters, because, well, why not.

But this week it is a little difficult to find the team that got robbed.

You could make a slight argument for No. 11 Texas, who remained unchanged after beating West Virginia on the road, but that argument would be weak.

I guess the tie between Ohio State and Georgia warrants some questions. Both teams won — and won convincingly against conference opponents. The only difference is Michigan State was ranked and Tennessee, well, was not.

Aww, poor Knights

It’s been pretty quiet in Orlando since Central Florida fans went off at the mouth to suggest they were the best team in Florida.

Well, folks, Mama's wrong again.

The Knights dropped its first conference game in 19 Saturday when Cincinnati knocked them off.

That’s two losses in their last three games.

Looks like Florida football may be safe atop the state’s best team list.

Ranked matchups this week

There are four games where ranked teams will square off this weekend and the Southeastern Conference has two of them.

  • No. 1 Alabama at No. 25 Texas A&M: The Aggies are clinging to the Top 25, but the schedule hasn’t been kind to Texas A&M as this will be the second time this season they face the No. 1 team in the land.
  • No. 7 Florida at No. 5 LSU: There is a lot on the line in this game. A win for Florida means they take a step closer to dethroning Georgia in the East. The same for LSU and Alabama in the West.
  • No. 11 Texas at No. 6 Oklahoma: Coming from the Midwest, the Red River Rivalry used to be must-see on Saturday. It finally is again.
  • No. 10 Penn State at No. 17 Iowa:

The Nittany Lions have been strong this year, but Iowa at home is a force to be reckoned with.

Next. Gators use the run and defense to outlast Auburn. dark

No. 5 LSU will host No. 7 Florida at 8 p.m. Saturday in Baton Rouge.
