Florida football: The game ball in win over Auburn.
Each week it seems there is a stand out performer that deserves some recognition for their great play. This week Florida football took on the Auburn Tigers and in great fashion, they beat the Tigers 24-13 in a classic SEC game.
The defense was heavy on both sides and the offense for Florida football moved the ball.
This game, more than any other this year, was an example of teamwork. There were so many that stepped up for this game it was just a total team effort.
Because of this fact, we are going to give the game ball this week to the entire defense.
Florida football defense
I cannot express any more to the fact that this was truly a team win.
Were there stars out there today? For sure, but not a single player can claim to have any better of a game than another. Let’s look at a few of the team accomplishments on Saturday.
Auburn was averaging around 229 yards rushing a game — tops in the SEC. They even pulled off a spectacular 467 yards against Kent State.
On Saturday, the Tigers managed a measly 124 yards against a Florida defense that was ready to play. They held them all day on the ground as Auburn had only one drive over 32 yards, and that one ended with an interception.
Here is an incredible stat, no player on the defense had more than two solo tackles, Brad Stewart Jr and Marco Wilson each had two tackles, with Wilson getting an INT as well.
The defense had three interceptions and the special teams had a recovery. Those three interceptions were more than Auburn quarterback Bo Nix had in the last five games.
Twenty-two people had a tackle for Florida football in this game, with no one over two.
That is the definition of team play. Each player doing his part on each play that came their way, and making that play.
That is why the whole defense deserves the game ball.
Florida football Home field
There has been a lot of talk in the media about Florida winning because they were at home and it gave them an advantage. Really?
Of course, it does, that is why it is your home field and you want to play games there. As Mullen stated;
"“I’ll tell you what was awesome. The fans — this is what The Swamp is and what it’s expected to be. It’s that home-field advantage — the most electric environment in college football, the loudest stadium in college football,” Mullen said. “We need the Gator Nation to give that effort like the team gives all the time. It’s hard for any team to get in here and come away with a win if that’s how the crowd is going to be…”"
Wonder what LSU will say when we win that one on the road?
