This weekend, it’s No. 7 Auburn at No. 10 Florida football. But, with one of its toughest games of the season, can the Gators pull off the upset?

Alright, everyone, the easiest part of the Florida football schedule is over.

We came out swinging and ended up as many would’ve hoped at 5-0.

Tennessee and Kentucky turned out to be minute opponents while Towson and UT-Martin were of little challenge.

Miami, while giving us good competition in the first game of the season, was dispatched late in the game.

Saturday, Florida football faces Southeastern Conference Western Division foes, the No. 7 Auburn Tigers.

It’s the first of three brutal games against top 10 teams the Gators will have in October.

  • Oct. 5 — vs. No. 7 Auburn
  • Oct. 12 —  at No. 5 LSU
  • Oct. 25 — vs No. 3 Georgia (at Jacksonville)

Dan Mullen recalls a similar stretch he ran through clean while at Florida:

  • No. 6 LSU – W
  • No. 4 Texas A&M – W
  • No. 2 Auburn – W

Florida football fans need not fear.

While this may be one of the roughest stretches we’ve seen in a while, I have the faith in Mullen to help hide this team through and come out ahead of this run.

In order to do this, our offensive line needs to protect quarterback Kyle Trask each game and dominate Auburn, LSU & Georgia’s front seven.

That should give Trask the time he needs to make a play.

While a lot of fans would hope and pray for a perfect season, all hope will not be lost in this stretch.

While Auburn is next and LSU is important, I think the biggest game Florida football has in this stretch is against Georgia.

It’s a rivalry game and could be a massive top-10 battle that decides the winner of the SEC East and participation in the SEC Championship game in Atlanta.

Of course, Florida could also play the spoiler.

In the event that Florida football does lose to either Auburn or LSU (perish the thought, especially the one of us losing to both), their ability to represent the Eastern Division in the conference title game will be slightly diminished.

However, a loss to either Auburn or LSU doesn’t eliminate all hope. The Gators would be hard-pressed to beat Georgia in Jacksonville — spoiling the Bulldogs’ shot at redemption against Alabama in the conference championship game.

So, the bottom line here is that Florida will make it through October and I see them being a better team (regardless of the record) than they were going into the month.
