Well, it happens just about every week. One team wins, but still loses places in the AP Top 25. This week, it was Florida football.
Okay, I get the fact that Towson is an FCS program that Florida football is expected to beat.
But, really. Do they have to be punished for doing exactly what they were supposed to do?
The voters of the AP Top 25 poll seemed to think so as the Gators dropped from No. 9 to No. 10 in the latest poll released.
All of that because No. 10 Notre Dame beat No. 18 Virginia — despite giving up 235 yards in the air in the first half to the Cavaliers.
Eh.
Never fear Gator Nation, Florida football wasn’t the only team punished this week.
Former No. 1 Clemson fell one spot after stopping a Mack Brown-esqe 2-point conversion the hold off North Carolina in Chapel Hill.
Because they went out and smacked Ole Miss around like rented mules, Alabama claimed the top spot in the poll.
Interesting enough, Georgia had a bye week and remained unchanged at No. 3. Didn’t Florida football have a bye week and actually lose a spot??
Yeah, I don’t get it either.
LSU was also off this week and did lose a spot down to No. 5. Because Ohio State beat the snot out of Nebraska, the Buckeyes leaped to No. 4.
The opponent for Florida football this Saturday — Auburn — nearly hung 60 on Mississippi State at Jordan-Hare Stadium, but remained at No. 7.
In other moves:
Central Florida blitzed Connecticut, 56-21 after seeing its 27-game winning streak come to an end the week before. They check in at No. 18.
Texas A&M was jobbed the most this week. They go out and unconvincingly beat Arkansas and fall two spots to No. 25.
Not poll-related, but Rutgers announced they have fired head coach Matt Ash after starting the season 1-3 and being thoroughly embarrassed, 52-0 at Michigan Saturday. Michigan came in at No. 19 this week.
So, No. 10 Florida will host No. 7 Auburn at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium.
