Florida special teams

I know, I know, it’s not that big of a thing, but I tend to disagree.

Kickoffs and punts are what help generate good field position for the offense. And, when you are playing the field position game with an opponent, you want to be in a much better position than they are.

But, Florida football has really struggled in this department.

In the punting game, our returning has been horrendous. The Gators have fielded seven punts this season and have amassed a paltry 32 yards. Yes, you read that right … 32 yards. That means we are averaging 4.57 yards per return on punts.

So much for that field position game.

That is the second-lowest in the SEC behind Ole Miss and its -0.40 yards per return.

For kickoff returns, the Gators have three returns for 78 yards — total. That’s an average of 26 yards per return, which isn’t bad considering there are only three returns. However, the fact that it could be better is a source of concern for me.
