The Florida running game

Florida football has had some very talented running backs in its tenure, and Lamical Perine is certainly one of them.

However, with a talent like Perine in the backfield, you have to wonder why the running game is so, well, stagnant.

Trending. 5 first-half takeaways against Tennessee. light

The Gators are averaging 136.8 yards per game, which isn’t bad. But, that is 12th in the Southeastern Conference — only LSU’s 131.75 yards per game and Vanderbilt’s 110.67 yards per game is lower.

LSU I kind of get. Joe Morrow is slinging the ball around in Baton Rouge like there’s no tomorrow and his 1,520 yards in the air in the first four games is beyond impressive. But Florida is supposed to be a bit more well-rounded offensively than that.

One of these days, the bell is going to ring and defenses are going to be able to cover our (and LSU’s for that matter) wide receivers. So, without a comparable running game, you are left with an offense going nowhere.

Emory Jones

Don’t get me wrong, Jones is a heck of an athlete and has a ton of talent.

But, I really didn’t see that in his limited action Saturday against Tennessee.

The run game did get 74 of its 128 yards against Tennessee when Jones was under center, but Jones didn’t make up a lot of that.

His passing game was suspect as it looked he was more hesitant to throw the football. It just seemed as if he was unsure of himself.

I have no doubt that confidence will be restored, but for now, his stock is slipping.
