Florida football: Gator fans explode over Kash Daniels video
In the days following a 29-21 come-from-behind win by Florida football at Kentucky, a startling video has surfaced that has Gator Nation in an uproar.
Late in the game, backup Florida football quarterback Kyle Trask was brought down in a pile.
Kentucky’s Kash Daniels was videoed allegedly twisting Trask’s ankle at the end of the play.
The video, captured by WYMT (which has since been deleted from the station’s website and social media account) is a sideline angle of the tackle.
Daniels said his hand was caught and he was trying to “pull my hand out at the last second” but it was caught under a lineman’s leg.
He added he was not out to deliberately hurt anyone.
First, in looking at the video (and I’m no expert), it does look like a dirty, aggressive play. Daniels appears to be holding on to Trask’s ankle and turning it as he gets up off the pile.
His hand never appears to be under a lineman, although you see Florida football center Nick Buchanan come over the top, Buchanan isn’t on the pile for very long — certainly not long enough to suggest he was trapping Daniels’ hand.
Needless to say, the Gator Nation has exploded today:
Many other tweets were not really appropriate to show.
Even the television station took flak for taking the video down on Thursday.
The fact of the matter is, this surfaced from the same game where starting quarterback Feleipe Franks was knocked out after dislocating his ankle.
Like I said, from the video angle, it certainly looks more than coincidental. If nothing else, the timing is pretty poor considering what happened earlier in the game.
Plays like this need to be investigated by the Southeastern Conference and, if probable cause is found here, Daniels should be punished in some way.
There has to be a message sent to players and coaches that this kind of action won’t be tolerated. It is dangerous and someone can be seriously hurt.
And, I would have this belief if it were a Gator player had done it.
Again, it’s not okay and the conference needs to step in and give due diligence.
