For most of you, my snark has not been fully realized, but rest assured Florida football playing Florida Atlantic is not worth cheering about.
Florida football has added another in-state opponent to its upcoming schedule.
According to FBSchedules.com, the Gators will play Florida Atlantic in 2021.
It will be a rematch of the 2015 game where the Owls gave Florida football a big scare, only to see the Gators prevail, 20-14.
The game is scheduled for Sept. 4, 2021, and will be the season-opening game for both schools.
It closes out the non-conference scheduling for the 2021 season as the Gators will open with Florida Atlantic and host South Florida a week later.
The Gators, as usual, will take on Florida State to close out the regular season on Nov. 27.
In order to get the privilege of playing at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium to open the season, Florida Atlantic had to do a little schedule juggling.
The Owls were supposed to host the Fordham Rams, but that game has now been moved to Sept. 18. The rest of Florida Atlantic’s non-conference schedule for 2021 includes Air Force and Georgia Southern.
Florida football’s previously scheduled 2021 matchup with Samford has been postponed to another date.
Look, I get wanting to play in-state teams. It’s great for the portfolio. But, I think Florida has way more to lose by playing this game.
I guess I would much rather see Florida play a more nationally recognized team, like Oregon, Southern California, Clemson, etc. than strap it up to play the Owls.
But, it’s a good thing I am not in charge of scheduling for Florida football.
