Florida football: Your Saturday football viewing guide (9/14)
By Nick Knudsen
Florida football travels to Lexington tonight to start a new win-streak against Kentucky. Here is a gameday TV viewing guide for the rest of today’s action.
12:00 PM ET
#21 Maryland at Temple (CBSSN) – What kind of follow-up can we expect from the Terps after last week’s dismantling of Syracuse? Former NIU coach Rod Carey leads Temple into their second game after the bye last week.
Chattanooga at Tennessee (SECN) – Morbid curiosity will keep me tuned into this one at first. The Mocs are coming off a 41-20 loss to Jacksonville State last week, so the Vols should be able to rack up a win before heading down to The Swamp next week.
Kansas State at Mississippi State (ESPN) – What kind of role will MSU QB Tommy Stevens‘ injury play in this game? New K-State head coach Chris Klieman has the Wildcats off to an impressive start.
3:30 PM ET
#2 Alabama at South Carolina (CBS) – First look at both squads in SEC competition. The Tide should easily cover the 25.5 point spread. This game can offer Gators fans a good look at Tua and new South Carolina QB Ryan Hilinski.
Stanford at #17 UCF (ESPN) – This game lost some luster after Stanford was blown out by a new quarterback at USC last week, but it’s still a chance for the Knights to take out a high-level P5 program.
#24 USC at BYU (ABC) – Interesting matchup between two teams who had big wins last weekend. Freshman QB Kedon Slovis went 28-33 for 377 yards with 3 passing touchdowns and 0 interceptions in his first start. BYU won in a wild finish on Rocky Top. If Slovis can follow up with another strong performance, this game could help reframe the Trojans’ preseason expectations.
Georgia Southern at Minnesota (BTN) – If you want an under the radar game, this could be a good choice. The Eagles got waxed by LSU two weeks ago, but they may catch Minnesota napping off of a big late-night win at Fresno State. Georgia Southern is capable of duplicating Army’s effort at Michigan last week. Watch out Gophers!
4:00 PM ET
Arizona State at #18 Michigan State (FOX) – The Sun Devils struggled to put up points against FCS Sacramento State last week meaning Michigan State could have a field day on defense. Sparty looks to avenge a loss in the desert in 2018.
#19 Iowa at Iowa State (FS1) – College GameDay visits Ames for the first time. Can the Cyclones bounce back from an ugly opening day victory? Iowa holds a four-game win streak in the series.
7:00 PM ET
The Game of the Day
#9 Florida at Kentucky (ESPN) – U.K. finally ended the losing streak last season, but the Wildcats will trot out a new starter at QB to face a stout Gators defense. Expect Mullen to attempt to make this a statement game and run up the score late. Look for an emphasis on clean play again this week as the UF kicks off SEC play.
7:30 PM ET
Florida State at #25 Virginia (ACCN) – Talent-wise, you’d expect the Noles to be able to handle this game, but that logic has not translated to on-the-field performance for FSU this season. Virginia looks to get their ACC Championship hopes on track by securing a home-field win as a favorite. If Florida State lays an egg in this one, how much does the noise around Taggart heat up?
TCU at Purdue (BTN) – The Boilers may have lean on backup QB Jack Plummer if QB Elijah Sindelar can’t go in this one, but either way, this could be a fun game with a ton of points. The Frogs were on a bye last week after cruising to a 39-7 opening day win against Arkansas-Pine Bluff.
10:30 PM ET
Texas Tech at Arizona (ESPN) – Only watching this game to cap off the night with a nice 100-point affair. Tech has been playing defense in the first two weeks, but QB Khalil Tate should present more of a challenge.
Remember, the Gators take on Kentucky at 7 p.m. in Lexington, Kentucky.
