They are coming off a 42-20 win over Northwestern State. Needless to say, Florida football is not taking UT-Martin lightly this weekend.

On paper, there are a lot of similarities between the UT-Martin Skyhawks and Florida football.

Both teams had more than 300 yards of total offense in their respective season openers.

Both teams’ defense stopped the rush of their opponents. The Skyhawks held Northwestern State to just 96 yards on the ground while Florida halted Miami to 94 yards.

Here’s a look at five UT-Martin players to watch for tonight against the Gators.

1. John Bachus III — Quarterback, R-Fr.

While the passing game wasn’t all that impressive against Northwestern State, redshirt freshman quarterback John Bachus III had 130 yards and two touchdowns on 8-for-20 passing. However, he’s still young and has some work to do. His one interception and low pass completion is a testament to that.

2. Logan Taylor — Running back, Jr.

Last week was Taylor’s first start of his career. In it, he recorded the first 100-yard outing for UT-Martin since 2017. He had 143 yards and two touchdowns on 13 carries. He shows some explosive speed if he can get in the open field. The big question is if he can get in the open field?

3. Wanya Moton — Safety, R-So.

Moton is the reigning Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week after racking up seven tackles and a pair of interceptions against Northwestern State. He took one of those interceptions back 78 yards for a touchdown. He helped anchor a defense that held Northwestern State scoreless in the second half.

4. Terry Williams — Wide receiver, Sr.

Last week, Williams may not have shined as a wide receiver, but he did as a specialist. Against Northwestern State, he logged 199 all-purpose yards, including a 55-yard punt return for a touchdown. He was named the OVC Specialist of the Week.

5. TJ Jefferson — Linebacker, R-Sr.

Jefferson had a huge game against Northwestern State. He had 12 tackles, 1 for loss and a pair of pass break-ups. He helped the defense hold Northwestern State to 96 yards on the ground. The biggest issue, however, was the fact that the Skyhawks gave up 387 yards passing — a good sign for Feleipe Franks and the Gator offensive line.
