On Monday, the Monday the SEC announced their weekly awards. Florida football defensive end, Jonathan Greenard Was the recipient of the Defensive Lineman of the Week.

Florida footballs defensive end, Jonathan Greenard Was the recipient of the Defensive Lineman of the Week for the Southeastern Conference.

It was the first of such honors for the graduate transfer from Louisville. In his first game for the Gators, he had six tackles and one-and-a-half sacks.

He was part of a defense that recorded a record 10 sacks in week 0 win over Miami.

This is a well-deserved award for the defensive end as he has had a long way to get back to this point.

The game against the Hurricanes was played at Camping World Stadium, the same place that he played his last game just a year ago. Greenard was playing for Louisville against Alabama in the opening game a year ago.

A few plays into his second series he went down near the sideline when he noticed that something was not right with his wrist. After being checked out it turned out he Greenard had dislocated his wrist and torn almost every ligament inside.

After just a few plays his season was over. the question would be, did he return to school the next year or to take a chance and turn pro. about this time he learned that Coach Bobby Petrino was fired. He was faced with an even tougher choice, stay in school with a new coach, go pro, or transfer.

He knew only one place was for him as his ex-coach Todd Grantham was with Florida football and he knew he would fit in well. Just so happened the Gators were in need of a DE. As Greenard states,

"“Then all of a sudden, of course understanding the circumstances I had, an opportunity presented itself,” Greenard said. “I had to take it.”"

The game against Miami was a game to start anew and to shed the demons of that game a year ago. He did both and the award by the SEC proves to him and to everyone that he is back and ready to cause havoc in the SEC.

The Gators will host UT-Martin at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 7 at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium.

Next. Sometimes I just don't understand college football polls. dark
