A lot has been made of the Florida football over the last week. What happened to the offense against the Hurricanes they say.

Can Franks run the Florida football offense?

The truth is the Gators faced a high-octane offense in Miami — a team with some potential NFL players.

The numbers the offense put up were above average. This week the Gators will play a whole different caliber defense in Tennessee-Martin.

Expect the best out of Florida.

The SkyHawks Defense

The SkyHawks defense has not been one that many would brag about. Last season they went 2-9 on the year. It seems the trouble they had was stopping any offense.

The defense gave up 30+ points a game regularly. They could just not get off the field.

They brought in newcomers this off-season that they believe will help. Jaquez Akins had a great inter-squad game in the spring. He led the team with seven tackles and looked like the help they needed.

Last week the Skyhawks played the Northwestern State Demons and won 42-20.

Tennessee-Martin took control in the second half. But it was their defense that took the lead and held the Demons to 0 points in the second half.

The defense led the way with an interception TD return by Wanya Moton to seal the game. Moton had two INTs on the night.

Florida offense

While we have seen the Florida offense got off to a slow start, what Mullen has done is nothing less than impressive. Franks ended the game with 254 yards and two interceptions and a completion rate of 69%. As a team, they had gained 306 yards on just 54 plays.

Kadarius Toney had a big game with 90 total yards and a TD. Josh Hammond also had a great game with 93 total yards.

The Gators were able to find success in their offensive scheme. They had a few mishaps but nothing anybody does not have after a long off-season.

Should be a very different story this week as the SkyHawks don’t have the talent to compete with the Gators.

Wanya Moton was good for Tennessee-Martin last week but he can not handle all the weapons the Gators can throw out. Although Lamical Perine only had 25 yards rushing in week O, he should be much more effective this week. The defensive line for the SkyHawks will not be able to get the penetration they will need.

Look for the Gator offense to be much more efficient and a bit more wide open in the passing attack. This is the game to get the ball rolling and have all parts running as one. Franks and company will have a big day.

The Tennessee-Martin defense will not have enough to stop the high-powered Florida football offense. Gators go to 2-0.
