Florida football: An in-depth look at the Gators’ offensive line
Tight End
I included tight ends just because of how they can also serve to block upfront.
Leading the pack early is sophomore Kyle Pitts. Pitts returns after playing in 11 games last season — on special teams and as a reserve tight end.
He had three catches for 73 yards and a touchdown — a 52-yard TD against Idaho.
Another one in the mix is redshirt sophomore Kenmore Gamble.
Gamble played in 13 games last season, mostly on special teams, but did have seven catches for 58 yards.
One more to consider is redshirt junior Lucas Krull.
The Shawnee, Kansas product is best known for his 15-yard pass back to Franks against LSU in the fourth quarter off a motioning hand-off. The play put the Gators in the red zone and led to the go-ahead score for Florida.
Last season, as a reserve tight end, Krull did have six catches for 75 yards — including a 30-yard reception against Charleston Southern.
So, competition for tight end will be one of the better ones to watch in fall camp.
At the end of the day, the Achilles heel for Florida football will be the offensive line. They are responsible for protecting quarterback Feleipe Franks and giving the running backs room upfront to run.
But, being somewhat inexperienced upfront isn’t necessarily a cause for concern.
With Buchanan back and leading in the trenches, it could turn out to be a good thing. Early work together will only help make the O-line get better.
