Center

This is likely the easiest position to name a starter for.

If for nothing else, the fact that last year’s starter Nick Buchanan is back as a redshirt senior and is the only regular offensive line starter returning for the Gators.

It is good because the center can really dictate the line. Having a returner in that role does help offset the obvious downside of an inexperienced line.

Buchanan played in all 12 games last season and helped anchor the line that allowed just 18 sacks.

Prior to last season, Buchanan appeared in three games as a reserve lineman but really broke out last season.

His backup:

After appearing in two games as a reserve, redshirt freshman Griffin McDowell is poised to back up Buchanan this season at center. Not sure it will lead to many appearances, but anything is possible.

As an aside, McDowell’s high school football team won the Georgia state title after finishing 14-1 during his senior year … so, there’s that.
