Florida football: How the 2019 opposing coaches have fared against the Gators
Now, Kentucky head coach Mark Stoops has been around for a bit.
He has been in the game since being hired as a defensive backs coach at South Florida in 1996.
Didn’t play Florida that year.
Worked as defensive backs coach at Wyoming for three seasons and never faced the Gators.
Spent a year as co-defensive coordinator at Houston, but still, no Gators.
Finally, in 2001 he replaced Chuck Pagano as defensive backs coach at Miami. In those three years, the Hurricanes went 0-3 against the Gators.
Then, in 2004, a little nepotism brought Stoops to Arizona State to work for his brother Mike. But, they never faced Florida in the five seasons Mark Stoops was in the southwest.
He came back to Florida in 2009 when he was named defensive coordinator at Florida State. In his three seasons with the Seminoles, he actually went 2-1.
In 2012, he was named head coach of an ailing Kentucky program that came off a 2-10 season under Joker Phillips.
In six seasons leading the Wildcats, Stoops picked up his first win last season and was 0-5 before that.
So, Stoops’ overall record against Florida football is 3-9.
