Florida football: The Georgia things Gator fans love to hate

Is hate too strong a word? Not likely. Especially when you are talking about a rivalry that dates back to 1915 (okay, 1904 if you are a Bulldog). The Florida football/Georgia rivalry has been vicious and when both teams are good, it is even more so.

There have been barnburners and there have been blastings.

But, one thing is for sure: The rivalry between Florida football and Georgia is as deep-rooted in a solid hatred both sides have for each other.

When the schools can’t even agree as to when the rivalry started, you know it is a strong rivalry.

Georgia claims its football team played a team from the University of Florida in Macon, Georgia in 1904. The issue is that the University of Florida wasn’t established by the Florida legislature until 1905.

This year will mark the 97th meeting in the World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party when Georgia and Florida meet up in Jacksonville on Nov. 2.
