Again, let me be clear, I am not advocating Donovan coming back to Florida basketball, only suggesting that the move can’t be overlooked.

The only likelihood that Donovan even gets mentioned with a return to Gainesville is if White can’t make the most of the tools he has coming into this season. If the Gators fall short, talk surrounding White being removed will heat up.

That said, in that case, I look for Stricklin to go after someone who isn’t Billy Donovan. Not because the resume isn’t there, but Donovan has burned the Gators twice.

Remember 2007 when Donovan resigned from Florida to take over the Orlando Magic for about two minutes, then decided to come back?

Then there was his move to Oklahoma City. Not that it was out of the blue, but you left for a reason, why would you come back?

His five-year deal with the Thunder will come to an end after the 2020 season, and it is very likely he won’t be back.

However, I don’t see his future including a return to Gainesville.
