Florida basketball: Does Billy Donovan come back to Florida?

After it’s all said and done, the life of a coach in the NBA rises or falls based on the tide. Winning doesn’t always mean you keep your job. Former Florida basketball coach Bill Donovan may find that out.

After completing a deal sending Paul George to the Los Angeles Clippers and the potential that fellow star Russell Westbrook could be on the way out, former Florida basketball coach Billy Donovan may find out just how fickle the NBA can be.

Donovan, who left Florida abruptly to take his chances in the NBA with the Oklahoma City Thunder in 2015, may find himself back on the coaching market sooner than he might have expected.

Our friends at Busting Brackets suggest that Donovan could be shown the door in Oklahoma after this next season as the Thunder undergo a complete overhaul following this free agent season.

While our brothers at BB suggest some possible coaching landing spots for Donovan, I want to take this space to flush out the possibility that Donovan comes back to Gator country to coach Florida basketball … if he is, in fact, shown that door.

Busting Brackets suggest schools like LSU, Southern California, Arizona, Indiana and Texas are possible landing spots for Donovan, I think they missing a school … Florida.

Not that I am advocating for Donovan to return to Gainesville … just the opposite … but I believe any list of potential college coaching jobs Donovan could be linked too would be remiss if Florida wasn’t on it.

Here are some reasons why Donovan coming back to Florida isn’t too far fetched:
