Florida athletics: Gators finish 3rd in Directors’ Cup standings

For the 11th straight time, the Florida athletics program finished in the top 10 of the Learfield IMG College Sports Directors’ Cup standings.

The Florida Gators athletics’ department can certainly hang its head on this.

For the 11th consecutive year, the Gators have combined to finish in the top 10 of a prestigious national competition.

According to the university, Florida athletics finished third in the 2018-19 Learfield IMG College Sports Directors’ Cup standings, released Friday.

"“The numerous strong finishes by Gator teams – including another NCAA title by men’s indoor track & field – led to another third-place finish in the Learfield IMG College Directors’ Cup,” said Scott Stricklin, Florida athletics director, according to the university website. “Every day our staff strives to provide Florida student-athletes, coaches and fans a championship experience with integrity. All Gators should take pride in having a top-five athletic program at a school striving to be among America’s top-five public universities.”"

The Gators claimed a national championship in at least one sport in each of the last 11 years and had 10 or more teams finish in the top 10 of their respective sports in each of the last 18 seasons.

This season, Florida athletics had 11 teams finish in the top 10 of their respective sports:

The Gators finished the season with 1156.75 points, a little more than 100 points back of Michigan and about 400 back of Cup champion Stanford.

Individually, the Gators collected six individual NCAA championships.

The men’s 4×100-meter relay team of Grant Holloway, Raymond Ekevwo, Hakim Sani Brown and Ryan Clark claimed a national title. Holloway earned a total of three track and field national titles (60-meter hurdles and 110-meter hurdles).

Yanis Davis won the women’s triple jump at the indoor national championships with a finishing jump of 46 feet, 0-5 inches.

Both Davis and Holloway were named Indoor and Outdoor Field Athlete of the Year in Division I by the USTFCCCA.
