A National Football League offensive coordinator is reportedly making his way down to Florida to work with Dan Mullen and Florida football.

A report suggests former Cincinnati Bengals offensive coordinator Ken Zampese is joining the Florida football staff “in some capacity.”

According to Bengals Wire and Sports Illustrated, Zampese has “accepted an analyst position” on the Gators’ staff.

From 1998 to 2018, Zampese worked in the NFL.

Most notably, he worked for 14 years with Marvin Lewis and the Cincinnati Bengals. from 2003 to 2015, he was quarterbacks coach and was promoted to offensive coordinator in 2016.

That proved to be a dismal experiment as the Bengals were one of the worst offenses in the league during his brief tenure.

Finally, after the first two games of the 2017 season where the Bengals failed to score a touchdown, Zampese was fired.

He then found some success when he joined the staff of the Cleveland Browns. According to Bengals Wire, he helped with the development of quarterback Baker Mayfield.

Shortly after that, Zampese went to the now-defunct AAF and the Atlanta Legends.

During its one season in operation, the Legends went 2-6 before folding after the eighth week. In their eight games, Atlanta managed to score double digits in just half their games and only scored more than 20 points once.

It would be difficult to figure out just where Zampese would fit on the coaching staff.

He could be called on to help quarterbacks coach Brian Johnson on the further development of Feleipe Franks and the rest of the quarterback corps.

Considering his questionable success — with the exception of helping to develop Mayfield — I would be hard-pressed to see a coordinator position here. It is highly unlikely Zampese would unseat someone like John Hervesy or Billy Gonzalez.

It is more likely that Zampese will be just an advisor to Mullen on any number of things from the offense to developing potential players into NFL prospects.
