Florida football was one of the top schools on his list, but a Georgia prospect has elected to move to the Midwest for his football career.

Sometimes you win … and sometimes you don’t.

Yeah, it is a common sports axiom, but this one may be a little tough to swallow.

On Thursday, Brock Vandergriff, lauded as one of the top prospects coming out of the class of 2021 committed to the University of Oklahoma.

He decided on the Sooners over the likes of Florida, Auburn, Clemson, Georgia and Tennessee. Just two weeks ago, Vandergriff put Florida football on his top list of potential schools.

According to ESPN.com, this makes the third top-rated quarterback who has picked the Sooners over all others. Tanner Mordecai joined Oklahoma in 2018, Spencer Rattler is coming in 2019 and now Vandergriff in 2021.

It will make for an interesting situation for Vandergriff, who many suspect could be an impact player from the first day on the field. If that is the case, he may have to wait in the wings, if he hopes to play for Oklahoma.

It’s not that the Gators are short on quarterback talent.

Feleipe Franks is just a redshirt junior and already tabbed as one of the best quarterbacks in the Southeastern Conference.

Backing him up this season should be redshirt junior Kyle Trask. Trask was called upon last season to replace Franks in a loss to Missouri. Trask, however, went no farther after suffering a season-ending injury. That injury opened the door for Franks to come back and reassert his dominance for the Gators.

Then, there is redshirt freshman Emory Jones, who is more of a dual-threat quarterback. Jones did get some first-team reps in the spring, but his passing accuracy became somewhat suspect. It was his ability to run the ball that proved to be the standout quality.

So, while losing out on Vandergriff may sting a bit, it’s not like the cupboard is completely bare in Gainesville.
