No. 4 Tyler Murphy (2013)
I remember being in The Swamp as a freshman for the second home game of the season against Tennessee.
In this game, starting QB Jeff Driskel went down and Tyler Murphy came in and saved the day as the Gators won 31-17. From that point on, I (and many of my Gator friends) thought that T-Murph was the truth!
Boy were we wrong.
We soon discovered that Tyler Murphy could not throw the ball deep (granted the o-line was depleted) and that his scrambling ability was not as electric as we thought.
In the nine games he played in as a Gator, Murphy completed 112 of 185 passes for 1,216 yards and five touchdowns. He also threw five picks. On the ground, Murphy ran for 61 yards and three touchdowns.
After injuring his shoulder against LSU, Murphy would play most of the season hurt before giving way to Skyler Mornhinweg for the final two games of the season.
After a horrible 4-8 season came to a close, Murphy severed ties with the Gators and transferred to Boston College for his senior season.
As an Eagle, Murphy threw for 1,623 yards and 13 touchdowns while also being picked off 10 times. He led Boston College to a 7-6 (4-4 in ACC play) record and after graduation he went undrafted in the 2015 NFL draft.
Despite not being selected, Murphy would get his chance as the Pittsburgh Steelers signed him as a wide receiver.
I do wish him the best of luck. For all we know, he could be the next Hines Ward or Julian Edelman!
