No. 3 Percy Harvin (2006-2008)

Earning the nickname “Mercy Percy” by many in Gator Nation, Percy Harvin was a versatile weapon in his three years at Florida. He was critical in both of Florida’s National Championship runs in 2006 and 2008 as he provided a reliable target for quarterbacks Chris Leak and Tim Tebow.

Between both National Championship games, Harvin rushed for one touchdown a piece and caught a combined 14 passes for 109 yards.

During Harvin’s three-year career, the Gators went 35-6.

Prior to declaring for the NFL Draft after his junior year, Harvin had reeled in 194 receptions for 19 touchdowns and 1,852 receiving yards. He also tallied resectable rushing numbers as he ran for 19 touchdowns and 1,852 yards!

As if playing during Florida’s second golden age of football was not enough, Harvin’s other collegiate accolades include:

  • 2-time SEC Champion in 2006 and 2008
  • SEC College Freshman of the year in 2006
  • SEC Championship Game MVP in 2006
  • Second-team All-SEC in 2007
  • First-team All-American in 2008 and 2009

As I stated earlier, Harvin withdrew from his senior year and entered the 2009 NFL Draft. It would prove to be a wise decision as he was selected 22nd overall by the Minnesota Vikings. He remained there for three years before being traded to the Seattle Seahawks.

In Seattle, Harvin played just six total games in two seasons as he battled various injuries. However, he did win a Super Bowl with the Seahawks and was even healthy enough to play in the Big Game as he ran back the second half’s opening kickoff for a touchdown.

Midway through the 2014 NFL Season, Harvin was traded to the New York Jets amidst attitude problems and did not have much of impact in the eight games he played there.

After the Jets released him on March 10, 2015, to make room for Brandon Marshall, Harvin signed a one-year, $6 million deal with the Buffalo Bills on March 18th.
