No. 5 Wes Chandler (1974-1977)

Wes Chandler played at Florida in the mid-1970’s. In his four-year career, Chandler registered 93 receptions for 22 touchdowns and 1,994 receiving yards.

He played on an above .500 Gator squad each year, but was never able to win a bowl game as the team went 0-3 in bowls.

Some of Chandler’s accolades while at Florida include:

  • First-team All-American in 1976 and 1977
  • First-team All-SEC in 1976 and 1977
  • First-team Academic All-American in 1977
  • UF Hall of Fame inductee in 1989

After graduation, Chandler entered the 1978 NFL Draft and was selected third overall by the New Orleans Saints. He played in the NFL for a decade and saw most of his success while playing for the San Diego Chargers from 1981 to 1987.

Chandler finished his career with four Pro Bowl selections and was inducted into the San Diego Chargers Hall of Fame in 2001.
