What to Watch – Week 6
Tailgating will interfere with this Saturday’s viewing schedule, but there’s nothing wrong with that.
Minnesota @ #20 Wisconsin – 12:00 – The battle for the weapon of a mythical giant. The Badgers have taken home Paul Bunyan’s Axe each of the last six years and this time around it doesn’t look like that will change. After an upset loss to Michigan State, Wisconsin should rebound against the rival Gophers. However, four of the six games were decided by a touchdown or less, including each of the last three meetings.
Syracuse @ USF – 12:00 – The Bulls have owned this series and look to extend their streak over the Orange. An up-and-down USF offense could make this game more interesting than it should be. Then again, Syracuse hasn’t been too bad during the early part of the season. Both are currently at the top of the Big East standings, although to be fair not a single team has played a conference game yet.
Tennessee @ Georgia – 12:21 – The Vols almost got lucky for the second consecutive game last weekend, but decided the only way they could stop the vaunted LSU offense was to put their entire defense on the field. So instead Tennessee lost and fell to 2-3 for the season. These two former powers are now a combined 3-7 overall and 0-5 in the SEC. Only one other team has yet to win a SEC game – Kentucky.
#1 Alabama @ #19 South Carolina – 3:30 – Another ranked opponent for the Crimson Tide and another one they should have little trouble disposing of. Alabama is only favored by about a touchdown, but this game could be uglier than that. The Gamecocks are in good shape to have a solid season, but their schedule won’t be any help.
Wyoming @ #5 TCU – 3:30 – Wyoming was supposed to be one of those teams that could surprise Boise State. The Broncos won 51-6. Who knows if the Cowboys can shock the Horned Frogs, but it seems highly unlikely now.
#11 Arkansas vs. Texas A&M – 3:30 – With only a close loss to #1 Alabama, Arkansas is knocking on the top-10 door. A solid win over a 3-1 Aggie team could push the Razorbacks even closer. They are one of those teams that have a very realistic shot at winning out the rest of the regular season.
#17 Michigan State @ #18 Michigan – 3:30 – If anyone can stop Denard Robinson, the Wolverines are in trouble. He is as close to a one-man offense as you can get and the Michigan defense has struggled. The Spartans may be better than most think. They have already gotten by one of the Big Ten’s better teams and would take a leap forward if they beat their instate rivals.
Pittsburgh @ Notre Dame – 3:30 – Who are we kidding? There are much better 3:30 games to watch. Both of these teams are already in trouble this season, the loser of this one has derailed.
#3 Oregon @ Washington State – 5:00 – Because you love Oregon’s offense.
Oregon State @ #9 Arizona – 6:00 – Because you’re just as surprised as the next guy that the Wildcats are the #9 team in the nation.
#8 Auburn @ Kentucky – 7:30 – Because love him or hate him, you can’t get enough Cam Newton.
#12 LSU @ #14 Florida – 7:30 – The Tigers and Gators at night in The Swamp. It doesn’t get much better than that. Both teams ranked in the top 14. That’s college football for you right there. You know, minus real offensive output.
Toledo @ #4 Boise State – 8:00 – Whether you’ll admit it or not, you’ll be checking the Broncos’ score every week. You know you will.
#23 FSU @ #13 Miami – 8:00 – Two quarterbacks that were supposed to be serious Heisman contenders. Neither is anymore, but both of their teams are playing well enough for their liking. Two losses between them, but those losses are to teams ranked in the top six. Not too shabby when you think about it. We could be looking at the future ACC champion in this one. Although that really doesn’t mean all that much.
USC @ #16 Stanford – 8:00 – Have this one on in the background. There’s a good chance something could happen during the course of the game that could cause Jim Harbaugh to literally rip Lane Kiffin in half during their midfield handshake.
San Jose State @ #21 Nevada – 10:30 – There is really only one team left that stands a chance against Boise State. Nevada is that team.
