Life After Football Looks Good for Dorian Munroe

Dorian Munroe appeared to be destined for great things when he committed to Florida.  As a senior coming out of Coral Reef (Miami, FL), Rivals.com rated Munroe as the 11th-best safety in the nation.  He originally committed to FSU, but made the switch not long before signing day.  He redshirted during his first season with the Gators then followed that up by appearing in every game over the course of 2006 and 2007.  Then the injuries began.

Munroe appeared on target to be named a starter in 2008, but a torn ACL knocked him out for the season.  His 2009 season was derailed with another tear (this time to his meniscus) and once he was finally able to come back, Munroe tore his ACL again.  You don’t wish that kind of bad luck on anyone.

Munroe applied for a sixth year of eligibility, but the NCAA turned him down.  They obviously had more important things on their to-do list like figuring out ways to get each of the 50 states a bowl game.

Today, Munroe is keeping football in mind while trying to shape the rest of his life.  He’s keeping himself in shape for the possibility of being invited to work out for a professional team and finishing up graduate school at the same time.  And then came the internship.  Munroe will intern this summer with the NFL in the player development department.  Not a bad gig if you can get it.

After the internship, Munroe will return to Florida to finish up his grad degree in sports management and from there, who knows?  Maybe coaching.  Maybe some sort of office or operations job.  While playing again might not be in his future, the game still is.  When all is said and done, Munroe will leave Florida with two degrees and a wealth of experience both on the field and off it.
