What to Watch – Week 4
) play back-to-back-to-back, meaning find a comfy seat because you won’t be moving for 9-10 hours.
Here are the games you should be watching on Saturday:
USF @ FSU – 12:00 – Not a bad way to start the day. USF traveling to FSU to take on its first opponent with a pulse. The Noles returning home after embarrassing a team that was vastly overrated due to what now is being viewed as a season opening fluke win. Yes, the Bulls stand a chance, but it all rests on the talents of first-time starting quarterback B.J. Daniels (who just so happens to be from Tallahassee).
Miami @ Virginia Tech – 3:30 – The Hurricanes are already ninth in the AP Poll. Knock off yet another ranked opponent, and it’s highest one so far at that, and we’re looking at top five potential. Do the same next weekend against Oklahoma and you better be prepared for a first place vote or two because at that point it will be deserved.
Florida @ Kentucky – 6:00 – Here’s hoping the end of the Miami/Virginia Tech game isn’t too dramatic because as soon as the Gators come on in my house, everything else is relegated to the smaller televisions. The way everyone is talking, you would think Florida enters this matchup 2-1 (0-1) instead of the 3-0 (1-0) they really are. Think that will motivate the Gators?
LSU @ Mississippi State – 12:00 – The Tigers haven’t been all that impressive, but are winning. The Bulldogs look like an improving program, but still have the #7, #1, #3, and #4 (not that Ole Miss will be #4 for much longer) ranked teams on their schedule. They may be able to play the spoiler in one of those games and the LSU matchup seems the most likely. Still, it’s wise to go with the Tigers regardless.
North Carolina @ Georgia Tech – 12:00 – The Yellow Jacket offense is fun to watch…sometimes. Other times, it looks almost lethargic. Take, for example, star back Jonathan Dwyer. After a good opening performance against Jacksonville State, he has virtually disappeared. Georgia Tech’s biggest problem may be a lack of a passing attack. Get behind by a couple of scores and there’s little chance they can come back.
Arkansas @ Alabama – 3:30 – The Razorbacks can score. Does Alabama have the pass defense to stop Ryan Mallett and company?
Cal @ Oregon – 3:30 – A Pac-10 matchup in the middle of the day. Interesting. Very interesting. Oh and the Ducks are marching out in another alternate uniform. This time it’s a throwback to a distant decade – the 90s!
Boise State @ Bowling Green – 7:00 – The Broncos are already ranked eighth this early in the season and here’s the thing: three of the teams ranked ahead of them are from the SEC West. You can bet at least two of those will fall off. In fact, one already has. Add that to the fact there’s also an SEC East team up there and that means three of the four teams currently ranked higher than Boise State have no chance of going undefeated. A timely loss here and there by a few of the others and there may actually be a realistic scenario in which the Broncos could play for a national title this season.
Iowa @ Penn State – 8:00 – We tend to forget about Penn State in the discussion of who will play for the championship at the end of the year, but the Nittany Lions have a realistic shot. Getting by Iowa, who upset them in 2008, is the first step.
Washington State @ USC – 10:15 – No one likes to face the powerhouse coming off an upset. No one.
Saturday Night Live – 11:30 – The season premier and Megan Fox is hosting. It’s Megan Fox people. MEGAN FOX! Yes, that Megan Fox! (Repeated multiple times to make sure you’re still paying attention.)
