The Greatest Gators by Jersey Number: #84 – Ben Troupe

facebooktwitterreddit

#84 – Ben Troupe, TE (2000-03)

One of the most athletic tight ends to ever wear a Florida jersey (think Cornelius Ingram without the catastrophic knee injury); Troupe led the team in receptions in 2003. A fan favorite (and someone Willy and I had the distinct pleasure of meeting…sort of), Troupe totaled 64 catches for 958 yards and 7 touchdowns over his career. Not bad considering the inconsistent way TEs have been used in the Gator offense over the years.

A second round pick in the 2004 NFL Draft, Troupe looked to be a solid pro player early in his career (he totaled 88 catches in his first two seasons). Unfortunately, he’s only caught 18 passes in three seasons since then, including only appearing in two games during 2008.

Last Year’s Pick: Troupe
Notable: Harrison Houston, WR (1990-03)

Current Gator: Christopher Coleman, TE

A former walk-on, Coleman was recently awarded a scholarship, but due to his place on the depth chart (behind Aaron Hernandez) and his status (he’s a redshirt senior), he won’t become one of the greatest to wear #84.
