The Greatest Gators by Jersey Number: #93 – Alonzo Johnson

#93 – Alonzo Johnson, LB (1983-85)

Typically overshadowed by Wilber Marshall, Johnson became a star in his own right when Marshall left for the NFL. Johnson – who tied a Florida record with 11 sacks in 1984 and then broke it with 12 in 1985 (it has since been eclipsed by Alex Brown and Huey Richardson) – joins Marshall and Robin Fisher as the only Gators to rank in the top 10 in career sacks and tackles. His 27 career sacks still rank second all-time behind only Brown’s 33.

Johnson was selected by the Philadelphia Eagles in the second round of the 1986 NFL Draft, but would only last two years in the pros.

Last Year’s Pick: Johnson
Notables: Trace Armstrong, DE (1988)

Current Gator: Kedric Johnson, DE

Being only a true freshman, Johnson has plenty of opportunity ahead of him to become one of the greatest to ever wear #93. (Editor’s Note: The preceding statement has nothing to do with the fact Johnson shares a birthday with yours truly. NOTHING I TELL YOU!)
