The Greatest Gators by Jersey Number: #96-97

These two numbers have been quietly represented over the years. No one particular player at either stands out and there have been a number of one-year wearers. On the plus side, that means the current players on the

Florida

roster have a great chance to make their case as the greatest ever to wear them.

#96 – Current Gator: William Green, DE/LB

Green is definitely one to cheer for. His motor is always running and he’s been mentioned as one of the harder workers during practice sessions. During the 2008 season, Green saw action in 13 games. I’m sure everyone remembers his blocked punt against Kentucky. Green is a versatile defender who could also play linebacker, but it seems like the coaches are gearing him up to be a pass rushing defensive end.

#97 – Current Gator: Edwin Herbert, DT

Herbert has the disadvantage every junior college transfer does: limited time to make a big impact. Given that defensive tackle is one of the toughest positions to succeed at right away, it could make it ever tougher. But Herbert provides a strong presence in the middle and should give the Gators more depth at a position where they need it.
