Transfer Watch – Florida Gators
to see the first list). Special thanks to
for his insightful input into this list.
1. Mon Williams, HB/LB, RSO – Williams saying he’s transferring = the top spot. Simple math.
2. Cameron Newton, QB, SO – We had considered moving Newton down the list because of the possibility of an intentional redshirt this year so both he and John Brantley are redshirt sophomores in 2009. Now with the latest news regarding the laptop thief, we’ll keep him right here. He might not have a choice but to transfer.
3. John Jones, LB, SO
– Jones jumps to the three slot because of the outstanding play of his classmates.
Brandon Hicks
looks like the real deal and even if it was against
The Citadel
,
Lorenzo Edwards
played great. Jones actually had a pretty good game last week too, but he still seems like the odd man out. Or a guy who could star at another school, but will never be more than a role player at
Florida
.
4. James Wilson, OL, RFR
– Wilson drops a spot due to the possibility of ample amounts of playing time in 2009. Because of his previous transfer attempt, he still remains in the top half of the list.
5. Torrey Davis, DT, SO
– Davis rises two spots because while he’s starting to see the field, he still isn’t producing to the level that was expected. He has too many marks against him at this point and seems like a likely candidate to end up somewhere else.
6. Adrian Bushell, CB, FR – Bushell jumps over Omarius Hines simply because two true freshmen have proved they can play in the secondary – Will Hill and Janoris Jenkins. No true freshmen receivers have seen the field this year. That means it may be harder for Bushell to crack the lineup in the future than it could be for Hines. The top five players in the defensive backfield all return next year.
7. Omarius Hines, WR, FR
– A good number of upperclassmen means there should be plenty of opportunities over the next two years to get on the field. There are a lot of young receivers though, so one has to make the list.
8. Steve Wilks, FB RFR – Florida doesn’t use fullbacks in the traditional sense and T.J. Pridemore seems like the more talented one anyway.
9. John Brown, DT, RFR
– We still think Brown has a lot to offer this football team, but we just haven’t seen it yet. For a number of reasons, he hasn’t been able to make an impact. He edges out
Omar Hunter
because he is a year ahead of the true freshman.
10. Omar Hunter, DT, FR
– Hunter is headed toward a redshirt season, which isn’t a bad thing, but he may not like it too much if the defensive tackle rotation continues next year. Hunter seems like the type that wants to be on the field for the majority of the plays.
Dropped from the list: Will Hill, S, FR – I’m sure some people were angry with Hill’s inclusion on the first version of the Transfer Watch, and actually, so were we, but look at the bigger picture at the time. Everyone expected Hill to start by the middle of the season and no one thought Ahmad Black would play as well as he has; however, as the season progressed, Hill got better and Florida found ways to get him on the field without sending Black to the bench. With interceptions in two straight games, Hill seems to love being a Gator and we don’t think he’s going anywhere.
