100 Days of Florida Football: No. 18 Justus Reed

Defensive lineman Justus Reed has yet to see the field in Orange and Blue, he’s already being compared to another Gator from the Tampa Bay area, defensive lineman Jordan Sherit. Reed hails from Clearwater where he played his first three seasons of high school football at Clearwater High School before transferring to Clearwater Central Catholic. The 6-3, 213 pound defensive lineman was a dual-sport star, as he played prep basketball as well.

Florida received Reed’s commitment long before his senior season in high school even began. He chose UF on July 25th of last year. According to 247 Sports composite rankings, Reed rated as a three-star prospect, ranking as the 38th-best strong-side defensive end, 120th player in the state of Florida, and the 842nd overall prospect of the 2014 recruiting class. He chose Florida over Florida State, Kentucky, Louisville, Miami, Michigan State, and Ohio State among other offers.

Reed racked up some big numbers in his first and senior season at Clearwater Catholic. He tallied 106 tackles, including 19 tackles-for-loss and 13 sacks, two fumbles, and a safety. After the season, Reed was named Class 3A All-State First Team. He also helped lead the Marauders to the Class 3A State Championship, eventually losing to Trinity Christian. Take a look at Reed’s senior season highlights:

Reed is going to be an important member of this year’s football team. Even though he might be redshirted to help him bulk up before he faces SEC offensive lineman, Reed will still provide depth along the defensive line and BUCK position. His video shows he could be a force to be reckoned with.
