The best players heading into their senior years of high school have descended upon Beaverton, Oregon for Nike’s The Opening and the Elite 11. The Opening showcases the top talent in the 2015 recruiting class by having the prospects compete in SPARQ Testing, lineman challenge, and a 7-on-7 tournament. The Elite 11 puts the top 18 quarterback recruits on display as they receive guidance from former professional QBs and top-notch quarterback coaches. This year, three Gators commits are competing in The Opening, including QB Sheriron Jones, who is also participating in the Elite 11. There are also plenty of targets Florida is after taking part in this premier showcase of high school talent.
In addition to Jones, WR/ATH Derrick Dillon and CB Marcus Lewis will participate in the event. Dillon will play for Alpha Pro and Lewis will suit up for the Land Sharks when the 7-on-7 competition starts Tuesday. Jones will find out which team he’ll dress for on Monday.
There will also be a large contingent of uncommitted players Florida is targeting participating in The Opening. On the offensive side of the ball, wide receivers George Campbell and Auden Tate, running backs Ray Ray McCloud and Dexter Williams, and offensive linemen Martez Ivey and Javon Patterson. On defense, safety Jaquan Johnson, linebackers Te’Von Coney, Roquan Smith, and Adonis Thomas, and defensive lineman Byron Cowart lead the way. There are certainly other targets the Gators would like to have, but these guys are at the top of the list.
If you’d like to see the future Gators, you’ll have four chances to catch The Opening on TV. Tuesday, July 8th will feature the SPARQ Championship at 8pm, Wednesday, July 9th will have 7-on-7 games, and it will all conclude on Thursday July 10th with the 7-on-7 semifinals and championship, as well as the Lineman Challenge Finals. The Elite 11 will air August 17th at 8pm, even though the winner will be announced at the end of the camp. All initial viewings will be on ESPNU and WatchESPN.
