Bait & Bits: O'Connell Center Photos, Hannah Rogers, Ryan Harris, & More

Belgium. The World Cup has been incredibly exciting, helping us cope with the void between the end of baseball and the beginning of football season. Summer is usually just for MLB, but Americans have caught on with soccer, football, fùtbol, or whatever you call it. Tuesday marks a chance for US Soccer to make history as they can make it to the quarterfinals if they can get past Belgium. So pledge all day you won’t eat Belgian waffles, chocolates, or beer and root for the USA. We might be the underdogs, but we can shock the world.

O’Dome Upgrade. Recently, the O’Connell Center got the approval for a makeover. And from what we can see from the first renderings, they are spectacular. I’m really looking forward to seeing this. Here’s a taste (Tim NewcombSports Illustrated):

New Florida Fans Challenged by Muschamp. This is a great read. If you became a Gators fan since 1990, you’ve been spoiled with great teams. Things weren’t always that great at Florida. (Alligator Army)

Billy Donovan Talks. The SEC men’s basketball coaches teleconference happened Monday and Billy D spoke about transfers, the FIBA Americas, among others. (Kevin Brockway, GatorSports)

Logan Shore Named Freshman All-American. Shore was the best pitcher on Florida’s staff. The righty definitely deserves the First Team Freshman All-American nod by Baseball America. (GatorSports)

RHP Ryan Harris Signs with Red Sox. Another Gator signs with an MLB team. Relief pitcher Ryan Harris signed with the Boston Red Sox, joining Karsten Whitson on the Lowell Spinners. (GatorZone)

Hannah Rogers Named SEC Female Athlete of the Year. Hannah Rogers was absolutely superb for Florida during their Women’s College World Series Title run. And the SEC honored her by naming Rogers the SEC Female Athlete of the Year. She deserves it. (GatorZone)

Pre-Season NFL Draft All-SEC Team. These players are only draft-eligible players. Don’t get upset Vernon Hargreaves isn’t on the list. Which Gators make the cut? TE Jake McGee, OG Max Garcia, DT Leon Orr, DE Dante Fowler, and LB Antonio Morrison. (Ben Natan, With The First Pick)

Tips for UF’s Class of 2018. If you’re a new Gator, check this out. (Andy Hutchins, Alligator Army)
