The Florida Gators earned the fourth seed and a first round bye in the 2014 SEC Tournament, and have been paired against the Georgia Bulldogs (fifth seed). The game is set for 6:30 on Thursday in Columbia, with the winner facing either #1 Alabama or #9 Auburn.
In Wednesday’s action Kentucky beat Mississippi State and Auburn upset South Carolina.
If UF wins on Thursday in the single-elemination tournament, their next game would be at 5:30 on Friday, and the Championship game will be Saturday night at 8:00.
A few quality wins could make a big difference down the road; the Gators are expected to host a regional, but the super regional sites are still considered up for grabs. The Gators are ranked #7 nationally, but boast the #1 spot in the BPI, which is the weightiest factor in seeding the national bracket on Sunday night.
Florida went 15-9 in the tough Southeastern Conference, but finished the regular season strong with a dominant sweep of the Arkansas Razorbacks.
The Gators won the tournament last year, with Kirsti Merritt being named the tourney’s Most Valuable Player. Merritt was the first Freshman to ever win the tournament MVP honors.
