The Florida Gators returned to SEC action on Friday night in a showdown in College Station, Texas. The result was a 5-1 win for the Gators, extending their conference record to 9-7 (38-8 overall).
Hannah Rogers (19-6) got the win, despite surrounding seven hits (one hit by pitch, two walked) to the Aggies. The Gators totaled nine hits, which resulted in their five runs.
Stephanie Tofft earned two RBI in the top of the opening inning when she hit a home run that also scored Kirsti Merritt, who reached via walk.
Later Brianna Little also earned two RBI with a bases-loaded double that pushed UF ahead 4-1. Bailey Castro finished off the scoring when she walked and scored on an error.
The other big news for the Orange and Blue was the announcement that Aleshia Ocasio will be joining the team next year. The St. Cloud Senior signed her National Letter of Intent, and coach Tim Walton is very excited about the addition; Walton noted that Ocasio plays every position will compete right away for playing time.
Game two of the weekend series will be played at 6:00 Saturday.
