The first game between the No. 18 Florida Gators (24-13) and the Georgia Bulldogs (21-15) has been rained out. The two teams will play a doubleheader Saturday at McKethan Stadium starting at 3 PM with a single game on Sunday.
Scheduled to start tonight’s game were freshman Logan Shore (3-2) for Florida and sophomore Ryan Lawlor for Georgia. Sophomore Aaron Rhodes (3-2) is slated to pitch for the Gators in game two as he opposes Bulldog freshman Robert Tyler (4-2). Both teams’ pitchers Sunday in game three are TBA.
Florida holds a one-game lead over No. 6 South Carolina in the SEC East. After an eight-game road trip, the Gators will begin an eight-game home stand Saturday that includes two SEC series.
Last year, the Bulldogs won two out of three games against the Gators in Athens. Georgia scored a combined 14 runs while Florida managed a total of seven. Florida looks to stay on top of the division lead, but their success has come against more top-ranked teams. The Bulldogs are not currently ranked, but rivalry games like these can produce any number of outcomes. Florida will need to bring their best in order to shutdown Georgia in hopes of being a front-runner host school come regional playoff time.
