Florida State Baseball. The 25th-ranked Florida Gators head to Dick Howser Stadium in Tallahassee to take on the (still) top-ranked Florida State Seminoles. So far, the Gators and ‘Noles have played twice this season, with Florida taking both wins despite Florida State’s number one ranking. Going back to last year, UF has a three-game winning streak versus FSU and a two game winning streak on the ‘Noles home diamond. Let’s hope they can sweep the number one team in the nation this year. Game starts at 6 pm on ESPN3.
Dedric Dukes Named National Athlete of the Week. After an impressive weekend at the Florida Relays, Sprinter Dedric Dukes was named the USTFCCCA Division I Men’s National Athlete of the Week. Dukes set two personal records in the 100m (10.27) and 200m (19.97). He also competed in the 4×1 (38.55) and 4×4 (2:59.73) relays. That mark set in the 4×4 relay is the fastest in the world so far this year.
Bridget Sloan and Rhonda Faehn Earn Honors. Bridget Sloan was named the Southeast Region’s Gymnast of the Year and Rhonda Faehn took the Southeast Region’s Coach of the Year Honors. Sloan is the top-ranked all-arounder in the country and leads Florida with 30 event titles, in addition to be the first in the nation to score a perfect 10.0 on the balance beam and floor exercise. Faehn leads the top-ranked Gators team that has set 11 UF-records. The way the gymnastic ranking system works, Florida earned that top spot with superb coaching and performances, including the top performance in the country (198.325) and best road score (198.20).
