The sixth-ranked Florida Gators played host to the eighth-ranked Florida State Seminoles on Wednesday in a game that went to extra innings. The contest saw three lead changed before FSU sealed the 3-2 victory.
Kelsey Stewart scored the first run of the night off of Stephanie Tofft’s RBI single, but a pair of solo homers from the Noles put the Gators in a 2-1 hole. Tofft tied the game up when Aubrey Munro’s double drove her in.
Florida’s top three pitchers each saw action on the mound, but it was ace Hannah Rogers who got credit for the loss (14-6). This came just hours after Rogers found out she was named a finalist for the Lowe’s Senior Class Award.
UF has now dropped four straight losses after being swept by Tennessee last weekend. Tonight’s loss against their instate rivals is the only blemish in Florida’s non-conference schedule (31-1). The Gators will get a chance for revenge next Wednesday in Tallahassee, but first will host the Auburn Tigers beginning at 6:00 Friday.
