Ninth ranked Alabama jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead over the top ranked Gators, and that early hole was too much for the home team to overcome.
The Crimson Tide scored three runs on two homers off of Delanie Gourley to lead off the game. Gourley clamped down after the first, allowing just one more run on four hits over the next four innings.
Unfortunately for Gourley, she didn’t get much help from her offense. Florida (29-3, 4-3 SEC) was kept off the scoreboard through six innings, with only one hit in the game. Trailing 4-0 in the bottom of the seventh, the Gators tallied two runs and left a runner on third.
Gourley (11-1) suffered her first collegiate loss, despite striking out seven of the 26 batters she faced.
The Gators will have a chance to avenge their loss at 1:00 on Saturday.
