Florida Gators Blank Mercer Bears in Double-Header

After suffering their first loss of the season, the Florida Gators retained the nation’s top ranking when the polls came out.

The #1 Gators improved to 26-1 (2-1 SEC) on Wednesday after shutting out Mercer in both frames of a double-header played at Pressly Stadium. Although both games were a shut out, the scores were quite different.

Florida won the first game 8-0 on run rules after five innings, but needed a seventh inning run to win 1-0 in the second game. Although both games were different on the scoreboard, they were similar in how they ended.

The Gators won both games via a walk off walk. In Game 1 the Gators loaded the bases in the fifth inning, and Kelsey Stewart drew the RBI walk off walk that scored Kristi Merritt. In the second game the bases were loaded for Merritt, and her RBI walk off walk scored Chelsea Herndon.

Hannah Rogers (10-1) pitched the first game, allowing three hits and no walks. Delanie Gourley (10-0) pitched the second game and surrendered five hits and three walks.

Next up for the Gators is their first SEC road trip to face the Tigers of LSU. The first game of the series will be Friday at 7:00 PM.
