Although it was ugly, No. 3 Florida pushed its conference road record to 4-0 in a 62-51 win at Mississippi State tonight. Florida remains the only unbeaten team in the Southeastern Conference and is now two games ahead of second-placers Kentucky and Ole Miss.
This win capped a perfect January for the Gators, who rolled through the month with an 8-0 record.
Florida (18-2, 7-0 SEC) began the game slowly and led 27-26 at halftime, but found their offense during the second half when Michael Frazier II scored three three-pointers to help the Gators pull away. Florida maintained its solid defense throughout the game, holding an opponent to 60 points or fewer for the 12th time this season.
Although the Gators were not on their game tonight offensively, the Bulldogs (13-7, 3-4 SEC) were even worse, shooting 42.6 percent of field goals, 28.6 percent of threes and 16.7 percent of free throws. Both teams struggled from the free throw line, combining to go 9-for-25.
Casey Prather led Florida with 16 points, while Patric Young added 12. Colin Borchert scored 15 for Mississippi State.
Florida will next face Texas A&M (12-8, 3-4 SEC) at home. Tip-off is set for 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 1.
