Although the Washington Redskins and Miami Dolphins did not make a trip to the NFL playoffs this season, a former Gator player from each squad, Washington tight end Jordan Reed and Miami kicker Caleb Sturgis, was named to the Professional Football Writers of America All-Rookie Team on Tuesday.

Reed missed much of the season due to injury but still managed to finish the year with 45 receptions, 499 receiving yards (both single-season rookie TE records for the Redskins) and three touchdowns.

Sturgis won the starting kicker job as a rookie for good reason, making all three of his field goal tries in his very first NFL game and successfully hitting his first ten attempts overall. By the end of the season, he had made 26 of 34 field goals (a 76.4% kicking percentage) and all 33 of his extra points. Opponents had a hard time returning his opening kicks as well, as 38 of his kickoffs went for touchbacks.

Florida was one of four schools and three SEC programs to have two rookies chosen for the team, along with Alabama, LSU and Oregon.
